Ziggy is returning home to Taipei after years living and working in London, Switzerland and Seattle, Washington. He recently joined Coupang Taiwan as Head of Product and International Growth and now lives just a 15-minute walk from his childhood home.
Hello, Ziggy. Where are you from? Can you tell us about your hometown?
I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, and left when I was 22- so by now, I’ve officially lived away from Taiwan for as long as I lived there. I live close to our office and close to my parents, who still live in the same house where I grew up. So now, all my memories — old and new — are starting to overlap, which makes life feel pretty full-circled in the nicest way.
Please tell us about your role and journey at Coupang.
I’ve been at Coupang for just over a month now, but joining has been on my radar for the past two to three years. Recently, my wife and I decided it was the right time to return home to family, and the timing lined up perfectly. The Taiwan leadership team was looking for someone to take us to the next level through growth products.
Growth products encompass everything that brings new users into Coupang — whether through ads, organic channels, email marketing, or push notifications. My role is to ensure people discover Coupang in the most personal and effective way possible, often without even realizing it.
We craft messages that highlight what make Coupang special like exceptional service, free shipping, competitive prices, and a seamless shopping experience — all before the customer downloads the app. And once they do, it’s our job to make sure their first experience delivers on that promise, creating a smooth and compelling journey from discovery to engagement.
You’ve lived and worked around the world: What inspires you about Coupang?
When I learned about Coupang’s leadership principles, the one that stood out to me was “Wow the customer.” From my experience in Taiwan, Coupang is the company that is most obsessed with customer experience. Every decision — product, operations, marketing, business, finance — is guided by that, and that really resonated with me.
For me, when there’s a trade-off between customer needs and internal stakeholders, there’s no hesitation: I choose the customer. Without them, there’s no Coupang. That mindset — always putting the customer first — is something I genuinely believe in, and one of the main reasons I'm so excited about the culture at Coupang.
What is your favorite place to visit when you travel?
These days, Disneyland. My daughter just turned four, and she’s already been to Tokyo Disneyland twice, California three or four times, and even Paris. She hasn’t been to Shanghai Disneyland yet, but I’m taking her to Shanghai next month. There’s a story behind this: My daughter wasn’t yet walking when we first went to Disneyland. and she went from crawling to running when we arrived. She skipped walking entirely the moment she entered the park.
I’ll never forget that day. It showed me that life is less about places but more about the memories and feelings you create with the people you love.
