Meet Luke — Senior Brand Management Specialist of the Coupang Taiwan Retail team

Hello Luke. Could you please introduce yourself and your team? 

Hello, I’m Luke. I am a Senior Brand Manager within the Coupang Taiwan Retail organization. The team I am part of is the Hardlines team which oversees various categories. And I am in charge of car accessories selection. For example floormat, cleaning product, car related electronics, and more. Our goal is to provide the widest selection in car accessories on Coupang to meet the needs of our customers.  

 

We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?  

Prior to joining Coupang, I worked for a popular local beverage company as their sales head to expand channels. My career also includes non-retail experiences with onsite and inventory management experiences. I joined Coupang in June of 2024 for the growth opportunity I saw in the company. At Coupang Taiwan Retail, the pace and scale were at an important growth stage where I saw the potential for me to be hands-on and get a strong sense of achievement from being able to oversee Retail processes from A to Z. 

 

What capabilities are essential for Coupang's Retail Selection team?  

First, our Retail teams are professionals. As Brand Managers, we need to have knowledge of our demand and the relevant suppliers, we also need to have negotiation skills and a strong understanding of the market. Good communication with our suppliers is essential.  

Second, project management skills and data analysis are at the center of our work. We need to understand data to make better decisions. By dismantling projects step-by-step and focusing on the data, we can successfully handle several projects at the same time. Lastly, we are problem-solvers. Brand Managers are resourceful and strive to find the right approach to tackle challenges that might occur. 

 

You have been at Coupang for just over one year, how has your first year been? 

When I first joined, I worked in the Home category. I was involved in various projects, with as of last September, a selection expansion project that saw us adding more categories to our selection. This year I pivoted to Hardlines with my current focus on car accessories. Coupang Taiwan Retail is fast-paced, projects move quickly, from supplier research to launch, we get to build up categories from scratch on Coupang. I get a strong sense of achievement from it. I’m proud to be part of a fast-growing company where my work is directly wowing our customers.  

 

Do you agree that at Coupang, you have the opportunity to work with talent from all around the world? 

At Coupang, we can work with colleagues from all over the world, this offers us the opportunity to get a new perspective on problems and how to solve them. Our Retail teams have collaborated with Coupang’s global teams—for example, gaining valuable insights from the extensive experience of the Korea Retail team. Those collaborations are made possible with the support of our interpretation team. 

 

What are you looking forward to the most with Coupang?  

At Coupang in Taiwan, the Retail organization is center and an essential to the business. I’m looking forward to continuing to grow the category I’m in charge of and expand our product selection. I’m also looking forward to introducing our Taiwan products globally. 

 

Any words to applicants interested in Coupang?

Before joining Coupang, I personally had no idea of how procurement processes worked but since I joined, I did a lot of learning, and my skills have improved.
