Hello, Chuck. Could you please introduce yourself and the team you lead?
Hi, I’m Chuck. I’m the Senior Manager, Brand Management for the Toy category within our Retail Selection organization. I joined Coupang back in November 2023. I first started as an individual contributor, then became the lead of the Kitchen category. A year after joining I was promoted, and now I oversee the Toy selection category.
We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?
After college, I started my career within the sales department. I later evolved to international sales, working as a sales manager for a global tire company and then to managing local distribution in Taiwan. I then went to the UK for an MBA in Edinburgh, and upon returning to Taiwan, I was contacted by Coupang. I learned the company was hiring category managers and it seemed like an exciting opportunity for me. I was looking forward to what Coupang would do in Taiwan. Since I’ve joined, our teams have grown exponentially, same as the selection of products we carry. Being part of the journey is really exciting, I feel like we are creating a new history of e-commerce here in Taiwan.
What capabilities are essential for Coupang's Brand Management team?
As a Brand Manager at Coupang, adaptability is essential. We have to be flexible and be ready to be challenged to meet our customers’ needs and demands. We are an agile team and always “Move with Urgency.” Lastly, I would like to refer to our leadership principle, “Ruthless Prioritization.” Commerce is a fast-paced industry, we all need to prioritize ruthlessly to put our efforts towards goals that can not only bring short-term results but also long-term benefits.
How are you maintaining work-life balance at Coupang?
I am constantly learning from others to improve my own efficiency. Since I live In Taoyuan and commute to the office, I do my best to maintain the balance, I always see if there is any better practice that I can learn from others to be more efficient so that I can complete my duty in a timely manner. Other than that, I enjoy reading and jogging during the weekend to refresh my mind and prepare for the next week.
