I joined Coupang in June 2014 as one of the founding members of the US office. I led an engineer and data scientist team to build the in-house experiment solution for Coupang’s domain teams to run A/B testing before fully launching their features to production.
What experiences did you have before joining Coupang?
Before joining Coupang I worked in enterprise software companies in the US. I managed an engineering team across US and China to optimize daily base prices for retailers.
What is the main role of your team at Coupang, what kind of projects do you work on?
Currently, I am managing the Catalog Tech team at Coupang. We build catalog systems to process billions of products from suppliers and sellers, extracting, normalizing, and cleansing product attributes, matching and grouping similar products, and identifying counterfeit/adult/illegal items.
What makes Coupang in the US special in your opinion?
Coupang is a fast-growing company with plenty of opportunities for people to grow technically and professionally.
What is one innovation your team has worked on or recently implemented?
Our team is using NER (named-entity recognition) to extract product attributes from unstructured text to improve product quality for better customer shopping experience.
