Nice to meet you Amy. Could you please introduce yourself?
Before joining Coupang, I spent 2 years working for a spirits company in Toronto. Prior to that, I worked in Shanghai for several major companies mainly in the FMCG (Fast-moving Consumer Goods) and retail industries. I joined Coupang last September, so it’s been almost 6 months now. I work in the Executive Sourcing team, focusing on sourcing and market intelligence for critical executive-level roles for Coupang Taiwan.
We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?
It was really about the people. When a co-worker approached me about this role, I was surprised by the way they reached out — especially considering I was in Toronto at the time, with a 12-hour time difference. I found it intriguing that they were searching for talent globally.
As I moved forward with the interviews, I became more engaged and interested in the opportunities here. I was impressed by the team's competence and how efficiently and smoothly they managed the interview process. I could already feel the fast pace and the challenges that come with it — which I really enjoy.
At my previous company, I had to focus more on managing relationships. Here at Coupang, it’s all about performance and getting things done. For anyone who wants to achieve more and aim higher, this is definitely the place to be.
How is the work-life balance as a working mom at Coupang?
I was a bit worried about work-life balance before I joined, but I was pleasantly surprised. Our leader is very caring and reasonable — if my family needs me, I can work from home. It really depends on how we manage our time. For example, I always set aside an hour or two for my 7-year-old daughter before she goes to bed. After that, if anything urgent comes up, I can handle it. It’s all about prioritizing and managing time effectively.
Do you have any advice, particularly for other female employees at Coupang?
As women, we sometimes stay quiet and try to perform our best with minimal resources. However, I think it’s really important to speak up and communicate our needs. If we don’t ask and just keep things to ourselves, it’s easy to get burned out — and that’s not good for the business either, especially when we want to move fast.
So my advice is to share openly and speak up with your leader. Your leader and teammates are your best resources when you need support.
What are you looking forward to the most with Coupang?
I’m excited about the growth opportunities at Coupang. The fast-paced environment and the focus on performance are really motivating. I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges, expanding my skills, and contributing to Coupang’s growth in the region.
Any tips you’d like to share with those who are interested in career opportunities at Coupang?
For anyone considering a career at Coupang, I’d say embrace the fast pace and be open to challenges. It’s a place where you can really stretch your abilities and grow quickly if you’re proactive and willing to learn. Also, don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek support. Coupang has a lot of talented people who are willing to help.
