Hi Claire, could you please introduce yourself?
Hello, my name is Claire Yang. I’m a Senior Sourcer on the Korea Corporate & Business Sourcing team at Coupang. I’m currently in my third year with the company. I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for over 20 years before returning to Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic. That was when I first began working in recruitment at a headhunting firm. Since then, I’ve continued my career in in-house recruiting at Coupang.
Let me briefly introduce our team. We are a global sourcing team consisting of talented individuals from various countries and backgrounds. We primarily handle both tech and non-tech executive and non-executive hirings. Our role is at the forefront of recruitment — identifying and engaging with exceptional talent from Korea and around the world. In short, we are responsible for sourcing top candidates, which is truly the heart of recruiting.
We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?
The recruitment process left a lasting impression on me. As I progressed through each stage, I had sincere and meaningful conversations with the interviewers, which made me strongly feel that I wanted to build my career at this company. What stood out to me was that the interviews weren’t just about pressure or evaluation — they genuinely wanted to hear my story, and that left a deep impact.
Additionally, the opportunity to build my career at a global commerce company that is leading the market was incredibly meaningful to me. Working in Korea while collaborating with leaders from various countries and being able to use English in my daily work environment felt like a tremendous opportunity — and I still feel the same way today.
What has been the biggest change since you’ve joined Coupang? Do you think Coupang has also gone through a change?
I’m grateful that Coupang’s Leadership Principles have helped me find clear direction in my work. Among the 15 principles, Move with Urgency and Demand Excellence have especially resonated with me and become deeply embedded in the way I work. Moving forward, I hope to continue leveraging all 15 leadership principles in a balanced way to build a successful and fulfilling career at Coupang.

What are you looking forward to the most with Coupang?
Given the dynamic nature of our work environment, I’m excited to see how much more I can grow. Since I first joined the company, our team has expanded significantly in terms of headcount. We now have team members not only in Korea but also in Taiwan. Being part of a team that continues to evolve in such a positive way gives me confidence that my expertise will continue to deepen and take root here.
