Hi, Wendy. This is your second interview with us. Can you please re-introduce yourself? And nice to meet you, Christina. Please introduce yourself.

Wendy: Hi, I’m Wendy. I’m a Principal Chinese-English Interpreter and Translator in the Taiwan Chinese-English Interpretation & Translation (TCEIT) team. I joined the company in early July 2021 as the first interpreter. I graduated in 2014 from the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU)’ s Graduate Institute of Interpretation & Translation (GITI). After graduation, I’ve primarily worked as an in-house interpreter and translator. My career path has taken me to vastly different industries, spanning from heavy industry and electromechanics to finance and insurance. Working in-house at Coupang offers a diversity in content and work, there is always something new happening that our team gets to support.

Christina:  Hi, I’m Christina. I’m the Senior Manager for the Taiwan Chinese-English Fulfillment Interpretation & Translation (TCFIT) team. I joined in August 2024, and it has been a real journey since then. A few months after joining, I was promoted to team lead for the FC interpretation team. During my in-house career at other companies, my work was a routine, supporting the same people and translating similar content. Here at Coupang, there is always new content as the company grows. We get to work with lots of interpreters every day across the business globally.

Wendy, we interviewed you back in 2022. Could you share what has changed for you and the team in the last three years?

Wendy: Since the last interview, I became the team manager in the second quarter of 2023. I was also promoted in the second quarter of 2024. In the beginning, we only had one central team for Interpretation & Translation. Now, as the business expands and our team grows, the team has been split between TCEIT, who overseas requests from the organizations in the Taiwan headquarters, and TCFIT, which handles all Fulfillment Center (FC) related requests for Rocket Fulfillment Company.  In the beginning of 2025, our team welcomed 2 new directors and continues to expand.

Christina, you got promoted a few months after joining Coupang. What helped you the most in discovering your potential at Coupang?

Christina: I got promoted three months into my tenure at Coupang. When I first joined as a team member, I focused on the execution of my daily assignments to ‘Deliver Results with Grit’ and I was able to complete all translations and interpretation tasks without issues. When I became a manager, I had to take on more of a company-wide perspective. It’s a different journey in terms of work and expectations, especially managing a team when the business’s demand is always growing. As a manager, our challenges and tasks are more diverse. We get to work on setting up processes and managing individuals to help them grow. It has been a very rewarding and interesting journey so far.

Do you think Coupang Taiwan has also gone through a change?

Wendy: Definitely. When I first joined, Coupang started small, but now has expanded its services in various departments such as retail, FC, and logistics. The whole company has grown, including the number of employees in Taiwan. In order to support this expansion, we have seen growth in our team.

Christina: We have had a great milestone for our FC team. Since Feb 2025, Rocket Fulfillment Co (RFC) was officially founded, we now have a more FC specific identity and work culture where we get to support the FC business to enable them to deliver goods to customers quickly and seamlessly.

Wendy, any memorable moments for the TCEIT team in the last three years you would like to share?

Wendy: It is our team’s expansion and the team members’ dedication. We have grown exponentially in the past few years. The team has worked above and beyond, handling several projects, jumping in whenever needed to support the business and enable Coupang to grow.

Christina, what are you looking forward to the most with Coupang?

Christina: Continuing to grow our team to support the FC business. We also cross-functionally collaborate with the Korea Fulfillment Interpretation & Translation team, sharing processes, comparing notes, and how to set up processes. On the long term, our team is looking forward to collaborating and sharing knowledge with them.

This summer we will be conducting our first ever FC Interpreter Summer Internship. The goal of this internship is to build a wider interpreter talent pool and scout out aspiring interpreters with high potential to meet expansion demands, as well as raising RFC's employer branding profile. This internship is open to interpreting grad school students who are interested in pursuing a career as in in-house interpretation. Four students will be joining our team for a 4-week internship, where they will get to work onsite FCs as interpreters under the guidance of mentors. Our FC interpreting members will take on the role of mentors, and they will each be paired with an intern to provide 1 on 1 guidance and coaching. Workshops and coaching sessions will also be held to help interns immerse themselves in the culture and knowledge of RFC and prepare for an enriching career as FC interpreters.

Do you think hiring real-time interpreters at Coupang demonstrates our commitment to diversity and helps overcome language barriers?

Wendy: It does. Coupang hires talents for a position regardless of language. As an Interpreter, I’m proud to work for a company that believes in and values the Interpretation & Translation teams’ services and appreciates the know-how we can bring to the company. Employees at every level all get the same support from us. Sometimes when I log into a meeting and see three different interpretation teams in the meeting, I’m proud to be there to support colleagues from all over our global offices communicate.

Christina: At the heart of the foundation of our team, communication and bridging language barriers is the base of our philosophy. When Coupang is hiring talents, they will not be limited by language barriers, they can talk in the language they are the most comfortable with, and we will be there to support. Every week we have meetings online with colleagues from our global offices and it's common to have several global interpretation teams support together. People come from different backgrounds, and we help culture and communication converge. I think this is an important part of Coupang’s DNA.

What kind of profile are you looking for to join the team at Coupang Taiwan?

Wendy: Teamwork is important. Coupang is growing so we are looking for talents who can be adaptable and flexible and be a team player. Our tasks evolve over time as the company expands. What we are doing now is totally different from four years ago when I first joined. We welcome new members who are interested, willing to grow, flexible, and adaptable.

Christina: One thing to keep in mind with in-house interpretation, compared to freelance, is that we are working as part of a team at Coupang to help the business grow. This takes a special type of personality. Teamwork is important, and talents have to understand the specificities of corporate work and how to contribute as a team player. We enable cross-functional communication, which requires people with skills that know what to do to help other teams. We are looking for individuals that are adaptable, willing to ‘Learn Voraciously’ to respond to new situations and tasks, and that are ready to grow.

Any last words for future applicants?

Wendy: We’re always hiring, looking for new prospects that have a passion for interpretation and translation. If you are interested in working in-house in an exciting environment where you get to experience a growing company and get the opportunity to work alongside like-minded interpreters, come join us.

Christina: If you are looking to grow your professional career in a corporate environment with a group of talented interpreters and translators, this will be a great environment for you. Be part of the entire Coupang team, where you will learn from our team and the business.
