Meet Rae – Senior Manager of the Coupang Taiwan Pricing team

Hi, Rae. Could you introduce yourself and the team you lead.  

Hi, I’m Rae JC Chang, currently leading the Taiwan Pricing team at Coupang. Our team focuses on developing pricing strategies that help us stay competitive in the market while driving business growth. We collaborate closely with category, supply chain, and tech teams to ensure our pricing decisions are data-driven and customer-centric. I joined Coupang almost 3 years ago in 2022. 

 

We’re curious to hear more about your journey to Coupang. What attracted you the most?

When a Coupang recruiter reached out, it was the first time I heard about Coupang. But I got to learn how they were entering Taiwan at the time and knew further from the employee branding stories.  

What attracted me to Coupang was the company’s bold vision and relentless focus on customer experience. I was also inspired by Coupang’s tangible commitment to the Taiwan market, whether it’s through investing in local talent, expanding business operations, or continuously improving customer value. It’s exciting to be part of a company that’s not only growing rapidly but also genuinely investing in shaping the future of e-commerce in Taiwan. I wanted to be somewhere I could make a real impact, and Coupang gave me that opportunity. 

Fast, quality, more selection and most affordable prices; those were the core values and goal of the Pricing team. I saw the news about Coupang’s investment in Taiwan and got a clearer picture of the company’s vision. . The company was investing in local talents and expanding business operations and improving customer experience. It fits with my personality which is one of wanting to make an impact.  

  

What capabilities are essential for Coupang’s Pricing team? 

Data skills, strategic thinking and business acumen are the fundamental skills for our team. 
To succeed as part of Coupang’s Pricing team, strong analytical mindset and business acumen are fundamental. We make data-driven decisions that directly impact growth. Equally important are problem-solving skills and customer obsession. We’re constantly asking, “What’s the best value we can deliver to our customers today?” Being able to approach challenges with a customer-first lens, while quickly adapting to market changes, is what drives success in our team. Cross-functional collaboration and the ability to turn insights into action are also key capabilities that shape impactful pricing strategies. 

 

In your opinion, how is Coupang able to provide the best prices to customers?

Our team is knowledgeable of the market, we understand manufacturer suggested prices, and how to offer discounts for our customers during different seasons. 

What is important is our business acumen, we rely on data to make sure our prices are the best possible and we collaborate with marketing teams.  In our operation process we make sure to have automation, and I hold my team members and myself to high standards in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in our work. 

 
Any advice you’d like to give to your female colleagues in Coupang?

Be vocal. Don’t hesitate to speak up and bring your perspective to the table. Coupang values diversity, and I’ve found that different viewpoints often lead to better solutions. Be confident in your strengths, seek out mentorship when you need it, and support each other. We grow stronger together.
