From the First Fulfillment Center to What's Next: Nick's Journey Building Coupang Taiwan

Nick was there when Coupang Taiwan’s very first Rocket Delivery order left the fulfillment center. Today, his work focuses on helping build the physical foundation for the company's continued growth.

Some career moments stay with you.

For Nick, one of those moments is a single package.

When Coupang was first establishing its business in Taiwan, Nick was part of the early team working to bring its first fulfillment center to life. The work stretched far beyond finding a building. He supported everything from site selection and construction to preparing the facility for operations and working across teams ahead of launch.

Then came the moment all that work had been building toward: Coupang Taiwan's first customer order.

Nick and his teammates packed it themselves.

"It was just one package, but it represented so much more," Nick recalls. "So many teams and resources had come together to make that first delivery possible."

Today, Nick's role looks very different. But the purpose behind it remains closely connected to that first package: building the spaces that allow Coupang to grow and serve customers across Taiwan.

Building More Than Warehouses

What initially attracted Nick to Coupang was the opportunity to build something from the ground up.

Unlike traditional corporate real estate roles centered largely on individual transactions, Nick saw that real estate at Coupang could play a much broader role in how a business grows.

"It's not simply about leasing a warehouse," he says. "You have to think ahead about what the business will need and make sure the physical infrastructure is ready to support that growth."

Today, Nick focuses on the spaces and infrastructure that support Coupang Taiwan's continued growth. His work involves close collaboration across functions to evaluate opportunities and prepare facilities for the future.

For Nick, seeing those decisions become physical spaces is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.

A location that begins as an idea or a potential site can eventually become a facility where teams work, products move, and customer orders begin their journey.

Growing Alongside the Business

Nick's own career has evolved alongside Coupang Taiwan.

During the company's early days, he often needed to work beyond the traditional boundaries of a real estate role, supporting whatever was necessary to help launch operations. As the business and organization grew, he was able to deepen his expertise in corporate real estate and take on broader strategic responsibilities.

That experience changed the way he approaches problems.

"Working through the early stages taught me that even very complex challenges can be broken down and solved," Nick says. "You learn to look at the problem from first principles rather than assuming the existing way is the only way."

His leadership style has evolved as well.

Rather than making every decision himself, Nick increasingly focuses on giving experienced colleagues the ownership to lead complex projects independently. With colleagues earlier in their careers, he spends more time coaching them on how to build clear reasoning and bring well-developed recommendations to the table.

The goal is not simply to create a team that executes. It's to develop people who can make sound decisions and lead the next stage of growth themselves.

The Physical Side of the Customer Experience

Coupang opened its fourth smart fulfillment center in Taiwan in 2026, strengthening its fulfillment capabilities to better serve customers while creating more local job opportunities.

Most customers will never see the work that happens behind the spaces supporting their orders.

Nick does.

"Real estate creates the physical foundation for the customer experience," he says.

Choosing the right locations and ensuring facilities are safe, compliant, and ready for operations helps give other teams the environment they need to serve customers reliably.

That's what makes the work tangible for Nick. He can pass a facility he helped establish and know that decisions once discussed around a table have become part of something customers experience every day.

That sense of impact is also what has kept him motivated from Coupang Taiwan's earliest days through its continued growth.

A Career That Grows with Every Challenge

For Nick, that journey has also meant continually stepping into bigger challenges. What began as hands-on work to help establish Coupang Taiwan's early operations has grown into opportunities to solve more complex problems, broaden his perspective, and help others grow along the way.

His advice to future teammates is to come prepared to think beyond transactions.

"If you're looking for a role where you can take ownership, solve complex problems, and see your decisions become something tangible, there are opportunities here to do that," he says.

The pace can be demanding, and the problems don't always arrive with obvious answers. For Nick, that's where one of Coupang's Leadership Principles, Aim High and Find a Way, becomes especially relevant: approaching ambitious challenges with the belief that there is always a path forward. It's a mindset that has shaped both his work and his growth at Coupang.

Years after helping pack that first order, he can now look across the facilities and teams that have grown since and see how far the journey has come.

And with more still to build, Nick is ready to keep finding the way forward.
