Having a system that organizes the business processes of HR, finance, production, sales, and operation in one place enables enterprise-wide sharing of information and resources, which plays a crucial role in quick decision-making and work efficiency.

At Coupang Pay, it is the ERP system that does the trick. In this interview, we met with Jessica, the Fintech ERP team’s leader, who will share what it is like to be part of the Fintech ERP team.

Hello Jessica. Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your current role?

Hello, I’m Jessica from Coupang Pay’s ERP team. I joined Coupang Pay in November 2020, and now I manage Fintech ERP’s projects and system operations.

What does the Fintech ERP team do?

We manage the SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system that automates and manages the processes throughout businesses, ranging from finance, accounting, human resources, inventory, and sales. Among the many SAP ERP modules, Coupang Pay mainly uses those for finance and accounting. We help the Accounting and Finance teams perform their tasks more efficiently by linking the systems necessary for processing payment slips and preparing financial statements.

While other development teams in Product Engineering are working on features related to Coupang’s payment service, we provide an integrated accounting system that enables the Accounting/Treasury teams to perform accounting tasks, such as recording expenses, with accuracy and convenience.

What made you join Coupang Pay?

I joined Coupang Pay with the expectation that I would be able to focus on tasks related to SAP ERP with opportunities and the environment where I can apply ERP to new business areas. My friend who works for Coupang also told me that you can work in a horizontal corporate culture where everyone can pitch in with their ideas and also work from home, which greatly motivated me to join Coupang Pay.

Which Leadership Principle is the most important from ERP’s perspective?

I think “Think Systematically” is most important in terms of ERP. Coupang Pay’s growing business has led to the need to simplify the existing working processes and come up with innovative improvements with the help of the SAP ERP system. I think it is vital to have the ability to design processes, to reduce time waste and to remove causes of errors in advance, while considering system scalability. This is because we must help users work effectively while ensuring that administrators can run Coupang Pay’s businesses in a stable system environment. We strive to put the principle into action to ultimately help with our team members’ growth.

You have recently become the manager of the Fintech ERP team. Is there anything you would like to say to your team members, who might be reading this interview?

Our team members are working on new development projects and other projects at the same time, and I would like to say thank you to them for doing well despite their extremely busy schedule. I am so proud of them because they always work together to face challenges and carry out their duties with a great sense of responsibility. I just look forward to continuing to communicate well and work together with this amazing team.

Who is your pick for the next interview? And why?

I’d like to recommend Bert from the Fintech TPM & SRE team as the next interviewee. Our team often works with him and he is the go-to guy whenever we need help. I’d like to hear from him about what it is like to work in the TPM & SRE team.

We are hiring.
