Coupang Ads: Building a culture of growth, together

At Coupang Ads, we are committed to creating a better workplace through a culture of shared growth. Throughout this quarter of 2025, a series of initiatives were introduced that reflect this vision — to foster collaboration, connection, and individual development.  

To cultivate a more focused work environment, Coupang Ads placed office etiquette stickers at every desk. More than just reminders, these are part of a broader campaign to build a culture of mutual respect and concentration. By encouraging voluntary participation, the organization is creating a space where everyone’s time and focus are valued.  

Additionally, Coupang Ads has taken global collaboration to the next level by organizing direct meetings between the Korean and Chinese teams to exchange organizational cultures. This initiative has solidified the foundation for seamless international teamwork. At Coupang Ads, daily interactions across language and cultural barriers create a vibrant environment where global perspectives flourish, making it the perfect place to grow both personally and professionally.  

On March 28, Coupang Ads hosted a Zoom Meetup themed “Growth,” featuring internal speakers who shared insights on career development, creativity, and mindset. Coupang Ads continues to support every team member's journey by offering access to learning resources, mentoring opportunities, and knowledge-sharing events.  

Creative problem solving in action: German’s Experience 

The first speaker, German, Sr. Director from the PSG (Product Specialist Group) team, shared a powerful example of navigating constraints through creativity and collaboration.  

Faced with the challenge of growing a high-interest category with no marketing budget, German and his team developed a new strategic model by leveraging internal partnerships and thinking beyond conventional approaches.  

“We had no funding and limited resources, but by aligning cross-functional teams and thinking creatively, we launched a scalable initiative that reshaped how we connected with key audiences.”  

The project, which spanned both digital and live experiences, not only elevated the category’s visibility but also strengthened customer engagement and long-term brand impact.  

“This experience taught me that bold thinking, clear vision, and strong execution matter more than starting resources. When you bring the right minds together, you can create meaningful outcomes — no matter the limitations.”  

“We began with no funding and limited resources, but through creative collaboration and strategic thinking, we developed a new partnership model that attracted brand sponsorship. What started as an idea evolved into ‘University eSports,’ a global initiative. The most important lesson I took from this experience is to think ambitiously and never let fear dictate your approach.  

 

From chef to a pro: A story of Joy’s career journey 

The next speaker, Joy, shared her remarkable journey from 7 years as a chef, including during her college days, to a thriving career in advertising. Facing physical difficulties due to some injuries, in her previous role, she made the bold decision to pivot starting from scratch.   

“When I made the transition, I had no prior knowledge of the advertising industry. I approached it with the same mindset I had when first learning to cook — curious, disciplined, and eager to improve. Step by step, I built my understanding of advertising, e-commerce, and client management.”  

With the same dedication that saw her clean 240 fish in two years, Joy has now communicated with over 6,500 advertisers. Her consistent effort and attention to detail helped her build not just skill, but a distinctive professional achievement.   

“As with mastering culinary techniques, progress in advertising came through continuous learning and consistent practice. Over time, I developed my own approach and strategic framework for client success.”  

Joy has also taken on a variety of external-facing roles — consulting with advertisers, leading seminars, and expanding her professional scope. Reflecting on her journey, she said:  

“Even during my time as a chef, I yearned for broader horizons. Entering a new field was daunting, but it also brought excitement and purpose. Not every challenge guarantees success—but without taking that first step, growth isn’t possible.”  

 

Proactively planting the seeds of careers: Derrick’s strategy  

The final speaker, Derrick from the Acquisition Outbound Sales team, shared insights on building a proactive career. Drawing from a various professional background — ranging from journalism to brand consulting he encouraged colleagues to take initiative and play the long game.  

“At times, work can feel repetitive. To break that cycle, I approach my career like a game of Go—laying strategic groundwork, early on to shape future outcomes.”  

Derrick detailed how each of his past roles contributed to his present effectiveness in advertising sales:  

“My experiences whether consulting with aspiring entrepreneurs or selling products as a small business owner have all helped me better understand and connect with our advertisers. These foundations have directly contributed to my performance, including achieving 150% of target last quarter and staying ahead this year as well.”  

He concluded with a message about collective progress:  

“Events like this Meetup are more than just gatherings they’re strategic foundations for our organization. By sharing stories and learning from one another, we lay the groundwork for a stronger, more connected Coupang Ads.”
