Who We Are
The Ads Ranking Machine Learning Engineering team is a globally distributed team responsible for developing scalable, high-performance AI/ML solutions that power Coupang’s advertising platform. Our mission is to maximize ad relevance and revenue by delivering the right ad to the right user at the right time, enhancing the shopping experience without compromising user engagement. We build state-of-the-art Deep Learning models for large-scale CTR/CVR prediction, list-wise ranking, and personalized ad recommendations. We own our services end-to-end and work closely with Product Management and Infra Engineering teams to transform massive amounts of e-commerce data into real-time business value.
What you will gain
- Model Optimization: Apply deep learning, learning-to-rank, recommendation algorithms, and advanced feature engineering to optimize ad ranking and retrieval models.
- Algorithmic Design: Understand business objectives and user behavior to design effective loss functions, evaluation metrics, and model architectures for CTR/CVR prediction.
- Production Implementation: Implement, test, and prototype machine learning solutions within our high-concurrency, low-latency production systems under the mentorship of senior engineers.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other Coupang tech and infrastructure teams to ensure models scale seamlessly and unlock new monetization opportunities.
Basic Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, or C++)
- Foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts
- Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost)
- Familiarity with big data tools (e.g., Spark, Hive, Hadoop)
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Exposure to distributed systems or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Prior internship or research experience in ML, data engineering, or systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ownership
- Eligibility & Program Details
- Must be actively enrolled in an accredited university during the internship
- Preferred academic level: Sophomore, Junior, Senior
- Internship Term: Summer 2026 (10-week program)
Pay & Benefits
- Internships are full-time (40 hours per week)
- Hourly Pay Range: $40 – $45 per hour; we do not anticipate overtime work, but if there is, any overtime hours would be paid in accordance with applicable law
- Compensation is based on market location, skills, and experience
- Mentorship, performance feedback, and final evaluation
