Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team of 8-14 engineers building critical settlement platform capabilities. You will own the technical direction, delivery, and people growth for your team while partnering closely with business stakeholders to deliver a world-class finance & settlement platform.
The CGFS (Coupang Global Financial Settlement) team is responsible for the end-to-end settlement platform — from vendor master management and AR/AP registers, through netting engines and tax invoicing, to payment execution and GL posting. We process billions of dollars in settlements annually across multiple countries and business models.
You will have the opportunity to :

What You Will Do
- Lead, hire, and grow a team of 8-14 backend engineers building core settlement platform services
- Own technical delivery of key platform capabilities including revenue/inventory accounting, AR/AP processing, tax invoicing, integration with fintech & SAP.
- Partner with Product, Accounting, Treasury, and Tax teams to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Drive architecture decisions across Java backend services, distributed data stores (MySQL/TiDB, DynamoDB, Aurora), and streaming infrastructure (Kafka, Flink, Spark)
- Establish engineering excellence — code quality, operational readiness, on-call practices, and incident response
- Manage cross-functional dependencies and delivery timelines across multiple platform capabilities
- Mentor engineers, conduct performance reviews, and build a high-performing engineering culture
- Drive migration from legacy SAP-based settlement to modern microservices architecture
- Ensure platform reliability, correctness, and auditability for financial-grade systems processing billions in daily settlements
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in engineering management
- Strong technical background in Java backend development and distributed systems
- Experience managing teams of 10+ engineers through full development lifecycle
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (MySQL, Aurora, TiDB) and NoSQL (DynamoDB)
- Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms (Kafka, Flink, or Spark)
- Track record of delivering large-scale, high-reliability platforms on time
- Strong communication skills — ability to translate between business stakeholders and engineering teams
- BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in finance, accounting, payments, or e-commerce settlement domains
- Experience with financial-grade systems (auditability, reconciliation, idempotency, data correctness)
- Experience migrating legacy monolithic systems to microservices
- Experience with OLAP/analytics engines (Hive, Pinot) for operational reporting
- Experience operating at scale in a fast-growing, multi-country environment

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
