Role Overview
As a Lead AI Design Technologist (Staff Product Designer), you will elevate our design capabilities through the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence. This isn’t just about using AI tools; it’s about
fundamentally transforming how we approach design—from initial concept to final execution—while consistently delivering exceptional and impactful e-commerce customer experiences. You will be a critical
leader in shaping our design future, driving innovation, and fostering a culture of AI-driven design excellence within our team.
You’ll sit at the center of AI innovation, working side-by-side with Design Operations, Design system team and Engineers.

Key Responsibilities
1. Problem Definition & Strategic Design Thinking
- Identify high-leverage opportunities for AI to eliminate creative friction and operational bottlenecks.
- Translate ambiguous business goals into a concrete multi-year roadmap for AI-assisted design workflows.=
- Advocate for a "human-in-the-loop" philosophy, ensuring AI enhances rather than replaces human intuition.
2. Interaction & System Design
- Architect the next generation of our design system, moving from static components to intelligent, context-aware patterns.
- Define new interaction paradigms for AI (LLM interfaces, generative UI, and predictive workflows).
- Ensure systemic consistency across complex, data-heavy product surfaces.
3. Data-Driven Design & Autonomous Analytics
- Leverage product usage data and AI-driven insights to automate usability testing and feedback loops.
- Design autonomous dashboards that proactively alert the team to design regressions or optimization opportunities.
- Use quantitative signals to validate the impact of productivity tools on shipping velocity.
4. Technical & Operational Insight
- Partner deeply with Engineering to understand the constraints and possibilities of model architectures (LLMs, Diffusion, etc.).
- Bridge the gap between design intent and technical feasibility, ensuring the AI system is performant and scalable.
- Operationalize design AI, creating playbooks for how teams should prompt, train, and interact with internal tools.
5. Hands-on Prototyping & Execution
- Build high-fidelity, functional prototypes to test complex AI interactions.
- "Lead by doing"—producing production-ready assets while simultaneously mentoring senior and mid-level designers.
- Ship zero-to-one AI products that redefine the industry standard for internal design productivity.
Qualifications
A) Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in Product Design, with at least 2 years in a staff, principal, or lead capacity.
- A portfolio demonstrating system-level thinking—moving beyond individual screens to holistic frameworks.
- Expertise in Figma and advanced prototyping tools (e.g., Framer, Protopie, or code-based prototypes).
- Proven track record of shipping complex products at scale.
B) Preferred Qualifications
- AI/ML Fluency: Direct experience designing for generative AI, prompt engineering, or ML-driven products.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to write code (React, Python, or CSS/HTML) to build tools or interact with APIs.
- Systemic Scale: Experience managing or contributing to large-scale design systems (e.g., Polaris, Carbon, Material Design).
- Strategic Influence: Experience presenting to C-suite stakeholders and influencing cross-functional roadmaps.

Document Return Policy
- This notification is given pursuant to Article 11 (6) of the Fair Hiring Procedure Act.
- A job applicant, who has applied but not been finally selected for a position at Coupang (the “Company”), may request the Company to return his/her hiring documents submitted pursuant to the Fair Hiring Procedure Act.
