Role Overview

You will provide legal support across various international legal initiatives, including Coupang Intelligent Cloud, Coupang’s AI cloud computing service, in an extremely fast-paced, dynamic and constantly challenging environment. We are looking for passionate builders who can provide actionable legal advice under urgent deadlines and project manage various teams to implement creative solutions and achieve results.

What You Will Do

  • Technology and commercial transactions: Lead and execute on a variety of country-specific, regional, and global technology and commercial transactions, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex technology and commercial contracts in English and Korean. You will be hands-on with end-to-end responsibility for legal support and will be required to work in partnership with our Procurement, Engineering, Security, Compliance and other teams.
  • Advisory: You will be a legal problem solver, providing practical, business-oriented legal advice on a broad range of legal issues related to cloud services and AI development, including commercial, regulatory, and policy matters. You will lead and execute as an all-around legal strategy on both day-to-day and long-term legal goals, including support for product and services development, commercial arrangements, contracts, terms of use, privacy matters, intellectual property and licensing, open-source software, information security and the interpretation of contractual terms and rights and obligations.
  • Third party legal risk management: Contribute to developing and implementing third-party legal risk management frameworks to set the standards for third party contracting with vendors across Coupang. This will include: (1) developing policies and procedures for minimum vendor contract standards and requirements, (2) setting legal risk assessment, review, and approval requirements for vendor contracts, (3) being a central point of contact to oversee and monitor compliance with the third-party legal risk management framework, and (4) building awareness across legal, corporate support, and business teams to improve contract standards and risk assessment and management of vendor relationships across Coupang.
  • Collaboration: You will work closely with internal business leaders and Procurement, Engineering, Security, Privacy, and Compliance stakeholders located in Korea and the U.S. You will exemplify strong individual ownership and deft project management, with the ability to appropriately prioritize matters under strict deadlines and with minimal oversight.

Basic Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer in the U.S., Korea or common law jurisdiction (e.g., England, Australia, Singapore) with 6+ years post-qualification legal experience, both in-house and private practice.
  • Experience negotiating commercial agreements across supply chain, enterprise hardware and software, data center and cloud services, professional services and other critical supplier relationships.
  • Experience providing legal support for tech product development (AI/IT).
  • Familiarity with AI and LLM-related legal and contracting issues, including data use and training restrictions, IP rights, and risk allocation.
  • Demonstrable interest in diving deep to learn new technologies.
  • Bilingual Korean/English language ability with full professional fluency in English.
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Strong interest in and ability to learn new technologies, especially in Tech and AI
  • Engineering background preferred but not required
  • Flexibility and strong prioritization skills in fast-paced, rapidly changing environments

Document Return Policy

  1. This notification is given pursuant to Article 11 (6) of the Fair Hiring Procedure Act.
  2. A job applicant, who has applied but not been finally selected for a position at Coupang (the “Company”), may request the Company to return his/her hiring documents submitted pursuant to the Fair Hiring Procedure Act. However, this will not apply where the hiring documents were submitted via the website of the Company or e-mail, or where the job applicant submitted those documents voluntarily without a request from the Company. In addition, if the hiring documents were destroyed due to a natural disaster or any other reasons not attributable to the Company, such documents will be deemed to have been returned to the job applicant.
  3. A job applicant who wishes to request the return of his/her hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above should fill out a “Request for Return of Hiring Documents” [Annex Form No. 3 in the Enforcement Rule of the Fair Hiring Procedure Act] and submit It by email ([email protected]). In such case, within fourteen (14) days from the date of identifying the receipt of the request, the Company will send the hiring documents to the job applicant’s designated address via registered mail. Please be informed that the job applicant is required to pay the postage on the registered mail.
  4. In preparation for a job applicant’s request for the return of hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above, the Company shall retain the original hiring documents submitted by the job applicant for 180 days from the completion of the recruiting process. If no request is made until the end of this period, all his/her hiring documents will be destroyed immediately in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
  5. The above paragraphs 1 - 4 shall only apply when the labor-related laws of Korea govern the application. They are otherwise not applicable.
