Role Overview

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Security Engineering to lead the design and development of internal platforms, tools, and automation that help protect sensitive data across the organization.

This role is ideal for a software engineer who enjoys building scalable backend systems, working with large-scale data platforms, and partnering with security, privacy, compliance, and engineering teams. You will help improve how the company discovers, reviews, governs, and reduces sensitive data exposure through well-designed software systems and automation.

What You Will Do

  • Design and build internal platforms and tools to support sensitive data discovery, review workflows, access governance, risk tracking, and remediation.
  • Develop backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and automation workflows that help teams identify, analyze, and reduce sensitive data exposure.
  • Integrate with large-scale data systems such as object storage, databases, data warehouses, streaming platforms, metadata systems, and production services.
  • Work closely with security, data platform, and product engineering teams to translate business and risk requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Partner with data owners and platform teams to improve how sensitive data is stored, accessed, transformed, shared, and monitored.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of software engineering, systems engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering experience supporting large-scale production environments.
  • Strong technical leadership experience driving complex, cross-functional infrastructure or platform initiatives.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native platforms.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture, networking, operating systems, observability, and performance engineering.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, including compute, storage, networking, containerization, and identity services.
  • Experience developing automation for deployment, monitoring, incident response, and platform operations.
  • Software engineering experience, especially in backend, platform, infrastructure, or distributed systems development.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills, such as Python, Bash, Java,Go,C++, or similar languages.
  • Good understanding of cloud infrastructure, especially AWS services, IAM concepts, permissions, logging, and access patterns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating mission-critical services with demanding availability, latency, and scalability requirements.
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes, containers, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and modern observability platforms.
  • Experience defining and managing Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and reliability engineering practices.
  • Track record of improving system reliability, reducing operational burden, and increasing engineering velocity through automation.
  • Experience driving technical strategy and influencing architecture decisions across multiple teams and organizations.

Type of work model

Hybrid - Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 2 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 3 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
