Job Overview:   

 

As a Senior Staff Engineer on the Security Infrastructure team, you will drive the development of the platform that enables Coupang to win and grow our customers’ confidence while rapidly expanding and scaling our services. 

 

The Security Infrastructure team builds core security services and libraries used by all Coupang services to secure themselves and our customers. Our work supports teams across Coupang and thousands of microservices. We aim to make Coupang and its products more secure while also making our engineers more productive. Our responsibilities include building Identity and Access Management (IAM) functionality for our entire ecosystem of vendors, sellers and shoppers. 

 

We are looking for a technical leader to drive the evolution of our Security Infrastructure, including our IAM platform. The successful candidate will be a hands-on technologist who is passionate about delivering business impact through industry-leading technical innovation. As a senior technical leader, you will work with key stakeholders to see the big picture across groups, drive strategic investments and root out inefficiencies. Come join us! 

  

What You Will Do  

In this role, you will: 

  • Drive technical strategy, implementation and integration of our IAM platform across multiple teams. 
  • Drive alignment across key stakeholders on strategic roadmap and technical direction. 
  • Partner with teams across the company to proactively identify business and technical opportunities. 
  • Drive execution through technical and organizational complexities, balancing strategic goals and immediate impact.  
  • Write code when necessary to lead by example and help with high priority projects. 
  • Help recruit and develop world-class engineering talent. 
  • Contribute to the Coupang engineering community through cross-company initiatives. 
  • Inspire teams to raise the bar on design, development and Operational Excellence. 

   
Qualifications  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field.  
  • 12+ years professional software development experience, or 10+ years’ experience with advanced degree.   
  • 5+ years’ experience leading technical projects.  
  • Hands-on expertise designing and developing large scale distributed systems.  
  • Recent experience with security, IAM or related technologies. 
  • Proven track record of working across teams to deliver mission critical systems. 
  • Experience handling multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and leading the delivery of large-scale services for complex business offerings.  
  • Deep understanding of Cloud computing platforms, software development practices, CI/CD and operational excellence. 

       
   
Preferred Qualifications   

  • Masters or PhD degree in computer science or other related technical field.  
  • Hands-on experience building security protocols and/or IAM systems. 
  • Experience working with Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, gRPC and Istio. 
  • Fluent communicator in English, Korean or both. 

Pay & Benefits    

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. 

 

The base pay for this position ranges from $138,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $297,000/year    in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
