Role Overview
Retail Engineering organization is a development organization in charge of Retail Selection, an important axis of Coupang's e-commerce business. Retail Engineering goes through several stages such as selection identification, selection sourcing, selection onboarding, and selection healthy management, and multiple systems are developed to support these tasks at each stage. Retail Engineering is a development organization that oversees the selection of lifecycle and several systems, operates, and improves to the next level in the long term.
What You Will Do
- Lead and architect regional diverse teams to support an optimum global retail business system
- Build next-generation Retail Systems that are efficient, scalable, and universally available pipelines and platforms to get the best Retail selection
- Serve global Retail service in multi-global markets with universally available and scalable system architectures
- Work closely with Product Managers, Retail Operators, and other Engineering teams
- Introduce AI capability to optimize the selection discovery and accelerate the selection sourcing and onboarding
- Build an effective retail system in charge of selection sourcing to product onboarding for Coupang's core business
- Provide leadership and technical direction to Retail Engineering and ensure that our engineers are working on building scalable and fault-tolerant systems
- Be the bar raiser across group-level tech engineering teams to lift the team’s engineering and operational excellence with best practices
- Engage with senior leadership and product owners in developing and executing technical strategy and product roadmap ensuring scalability and simplicity
- Prioritize and plan the projects and features sponsored by senior leadership, stakeholders, and strategically important tech initiatives
- Refine and set the vision for the overall architecture plan and application of best practice architecture, design patterns, and ongoing simplification of the system landscape
- Foster a culture that continuously innovates through frequent product iterations (Agile/Scrum) and help the team develop their Agile practices further
- Own definition, measurement, and reporting of operational metrics
- Establish and run the operational support for your team’s software
- Communicate clearly and concisely with the team members, peers, and leadership team
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of industry experience in increasing responsibility and leading engineering teams
- 5+ years of experience in software development in an Object-Oriented development environment
- Experience in creating a vision, influencing cross-functionally, and driving a technology organization to meet ambitious goals
- Experience with large distributed system
- Strong delivery software products competency in an environment that rapidly changing requirements with appropriate trade-off
- Powerful sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. High on the bias for action
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working closely with global distributed teams
- AI-related system experience, integrate AI into the engineering system experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in managing software development with hands-on architectural experience in delivering innovative products in the relevant space
- Experience working with geographically dispersed global teams
- English Proficiency in writing and speaking

Document Return Policy
- This notification is given pursuant to Article 11 (6) of the Fair Hiring Procedure Act.
- A job applicant, who has applied but not been finally selected for a position at Coupang (the “Company”), may request the Company to return his/her hiring documents submitted pursuant to the Fair Hiring Procedure Act. However, this will not apply where the hiring documents were submitted via the website of the Company or e-mail, or where the job applicant submitted those documents voluntarily without a request from the Company. In addition, if the hiring documents were destroyed due to a natural disaster or any other reasons not attributable to the Company, such documents will be deemed to have been returned to the job applicant.
- A job applicant who wishes to request the return of his/her hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above should fill out a “Request for Return of Hiring Documents” [Annex Form No. 3 in the Enforcement Rule of the Fair Hiring Procedure Act] and submit It by email ([email protected]). In such case, within fourteen (14) days from the date of identifying the receipt of the request, the Company will send the hiring documents to the job applicant’s designated address via registered mail. Please be informed that the job applicant is required to pay the postage on the registered mail.
- In preparation for a job applicant’s request for the return of hiring documents pursuant to the main sentence of paragraph 2 above, the Company shall retain the original hiring documents submitted by the job applicant for 180 days from the completion of the recruiting process. If no request is made until the end of this period, all his/her hiring documents will be destroyed immediately in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
- The above paragraphs 1 - 4 shall only apply when the labor-related laws of Korea govern the application. They are otherwise not applicable.
