Job Summary:
This is a pivotal leadership role at the forefront of Coupang’s expansion in Taiwan. As the Senior Director of Marketplace Business, you will be the strategic owner responsible for building and scaling our third-party (3P) seller ecosystem. Your mission is to define and execute the go-to-market strategy that establishes Coupang as the definitive platform of choice for sellers, driving exponential growth and securing our market leadership.
This role is for a builder and a strategist. You will not only assemble and mentor a world-class sales and account management team from the ground up but also architect the commercial strategy, own the P&L for seller acquisition, and relentlessly pursue market share. What You Will Do:
- Strategic Market Ownership: Develop and execute the comprehensive strategy for our 3P marketplace in Taiwan. Conduct deep market analysis, identify key seller segments and categories for growth, and define a compelling value proposition to outmaneuver competitors.
- Commercial Leadership & P&L Accountability: Own the P&L for the seller-side business. Set ambitious revenue and growth targets (GMV, seller count, selection), develop pricing and incentive structures, and manage the budget to maximize ROI and profitability.
- Build a High-Velocity Growth Engine: Design, implement, and optimize a scalable engine for seller acquisition, onboarding, and success. Establish best-in-class processes and playbooks that ensure both speed and quality.
- Inspirational Team Leadership: Recruit, coach, and lead a high-performance organization. Foster a culture of ownership, urgency, and continuous improvement, empowering your team to achieve ambitious goals and grow professionally.
- Drive Strategic Seller Partnerships: Go beyond transactional relationships to cultivate deep, long-term partnerships with key sellers and brands. Develop joint business plans with top accounts to unlock mutual growth and expand platform selection.
- Data-Driven Strategy & Execution: Champion a data-first culture. Leverage analytics not just to track performance, but to uncover market insights, predict trends, identify opportunities, and make decisive, data-backed business decisions.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Serve as the voice of the Taiwan seller within Coupang, collaborating closely with Marketing, Logistics, Product, and Legal teams to ensure our offerings are competitive, our processes are seamless, and our sellers are positioned for success.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proven Marketplace Builder: 15+ years of experience in e-commerce, marketplace management, or business development, with a clear track record of creating and executing a strategy to scale a 3P marketplace business in a competitive environment.
- Strategic & Commercial Acumen: Deep expertise in developing go-to-market strategies and owning a P&L. You think in terms of market share, competitive moats, and long-term value creation.
Inspirational Leadership: Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and leading high-performing sales and account management teams, particularly in a high-growth or start-up phase. You attract and develop top talent. - Master Negotiator & Partner: Exceptional ability to negotiate complex deals and foster strategic partnerships with key accounts, brands, and stakeholders that drive significant business impact.
- Analytical Powerhouse: Superior analytical and problem-solving skills. You are adept at turning complex data into actionable insights and a clear business narrative.\
- Operational Excellence: A strong understanding of marketplace logistics, fulfillment, and supply chain dynamics, with an eye for creating efficient, scalable operational processes.
- Customer-Obsessed Mindset: A deep-rooted commitment to our "Wow the Customer" principle, with the ability to translate that into a seller experience that ultimately benefits the end consumer.
- Executive Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. Mandarin proficiency is a strong advantage.
