About Coupang Play
Coupang Play is an OTT video streaming service. We offer a wide range of content, including Original Series, TV Shows, Movies, and Sports.
We are in the business of delivering exceptional storytelling. We produce award-winning scripted and unscripted Original Series, such as “Boyhood”, “Anna”, and “SNL Korea”. We believe Sports can also be elevated by creative storytelling. Play is now an authoritative destination for Sports, broadcasting K-League, La Liga, Bundesliga, F1, NFL, and other leading leagues and tournaments. We also offer some of the latest movies that were just released in local theaters, bringing more exceptional storytelling to our Customers.
To ensure that we deliver the content seamlessly, we invest in Engineering, Product, and Design. Coupang Play is available on all mobile devices, tablets, PC, Smart TV, Apple TV, and Android TV. Our teams keep optimizing how Customers discover and stream both VOD and Live content. That includes investments in frontend, backend, and infrastructural developments. We also embrace Machine Learning to refine our CX.

What You Will Do
- Support Coupang Play’s streaming service, business, and growth: Working with the Head, Coupang Play Legal, you will lead and manage all legal aspects of deals supporting Coupang Play’s streaming service, business, and growth. This will include structuring, drafting, and negotiating contracts for licensed content, sports rights, live events, and original productions (scripted and non-scripted). You will partner with and support various Coupang Play teams to provide tactical and strategic advice, including in relation to business models and deal structures. You will have strong and hands-on experience working in the entertainment and media industry, dealing with Korean and multinational media companies, sports leagues, studios, and production companies.
- Trusted legal adviser: Working with the Head, Coupang Play Legal, you will lead and execute as an all-around legal advisor for Coupang Play teams – which may include Terms of Use, services/technical agreements, product and app development to continuously enhance the Coupang Play customer experience, and associated marketing and PR activities.
- Cross-functional partner: You will collaborate closely with various internal business partners and stakeholders across Coupang to ensure alignment on strategies and priorities. This will include working with other Coupang legal teams, Finance, Security and Privacy, Technology, and Public Relations to continue to build and enhance legal and regulatory compliance. You will also lead and manage outside counsel retained to provide legal services.
Essential Qualifications
- Qualified attorney in Korea, U.S., or common law jurisdiction (e.g. England, Singapore, Australia).
- Around 12-15 years post-qualification legal experience. A mixture of law firm and in-house experience is preferred.
- Fluency in Korean and English.
- Strong and hands-on experience in the entertainment and media industry, ideally including knowledge, understanding, and interest in the streaming and content industries in Korea.
- Exceptional ability to consistently deliver creative, thoughtful, and business-oriented results that appropriately balance growth and risk in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- A willingness to learn voraciously and take on new scope and challenges.
- Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions.
- Location: Korea or Singapore.
